The Sign

We live at the end of a cul-de-sac with a wooded empty lot next to us and a wooded area behind us. Fortunately no one is allowed to buid on these lots. The set up make it PERFECT for kids to run, play, and have little adventures. Because it is such a great place to play, we usually end up with the whole neighborhood in and around our yard. It's been fun to get to know the kids who don't live in the cul-de-sac. However, they are usually older kids and don't have a parent watching them...which is usually not a problem...but I end up being the one making sure everyone is safe, playing nicely and having fun. My cute neighbor across the street called me from Hobby Lobby this morning and said she found the perfect sign to put on our front door, "Any kid left unattended will go home with an expresso and a new puppy!" It made me laugh. I love our neighbors, we really do live in the perfect place for us at this time.

The Big Race

Isaac came home from school with an entry form for a 5K race/kids mile race. The kids mile race was for kids 3-12, so I signed up Isaac, Caite, and Hayden, put Halle in the jogger and off we went. They lined up the kids in ages, so Isaac was way ahead of me and the little ones. I didn't actually get to see him run, but he said he did it in 8 minutes...I'm not sure about that. Hayden is going to be a runner, he didn't stop the whole time...except to get a drink of water. Caite on the other hand, prefers walking then running for about 10 seconds then back to walking.
Last night Isaac was excited and asking a bunch of questions like: "What time do we need to wake up?" and "How fast do you think I can run a mile?" Hayden was jumping because "I det to run wiff the big kids!" and Caite says "Mom, should I wear my pink or yellow shorts?" and "should I wear 1 pony tail or 2?" Oh she's a crack up!!

We all had a great time. We waited, watched, and cheered on the 5Kers. Then we started. At the end each kid who finished the race got a medal and a back pack. Then there was pizza, fruit and drinks for everyone. Not to mention an award ceremony and door prizes. Caite and Hayden both came home with door prizes. Oh they also got t-shirts when we registered...notice Caite wouldn't wear hers..."It's too big and doesn't have pink in it to match my shorts." Whatever!
The only thing to make the race better was if Dad was there to run with us...but alas he was at the hospital...as always.

It Makes Me Happy

My little house makes me happy. We moved into a stark white house, with the exception of the master bathroom which was hot pink (no joke). So we took one of Aaron's vacation weeks last September and painted most of the house, the front, back, and garage doors. We got burned out, had a baby, and I finally got around to painting the kids rooms this summer. It feels so much more homey and warm. I love it! I finally have a master bedroom that really feels like my sanctuary...a place that is just mine and Aaron's...no kids or kid stuff. I think one of my favorite things in the house is the amazing painting of the Sacred Grove. It's beautiful and a fantastic conversation started with friends of different faiths. Anyway I put together a slide show mostly for my family who hasn't seen it. Enjoy.

Tinkerbell?

Conversation with Caite

C: Mom, can we go to Tinkerbell?

Me: Like Disneyland where Tinkerbell lives?

C: What?

Me: Yeah, Tinkerbell lives at Disneyland.

C: Not Disneyland, that place we eat tacos and chips with cheese.

Me: (laughing very hard) Oh Taco Bell!

C: Yeah that place, can we go there?

Thanks for the laugh Caite!

Not Cut Out for 8

We have good friends who we trade babysitting with every once in a while. Well, last night while Aaron worked at the hospital, I worked watching 8 kids. ages: 9,7,6 (almost 7), 4,3,3,8 months, 8 months. AHHHHH! just kidding. The kids were all really good, but there are 8 of them, and they were excited to play together. Craziness is what happened at our house. The really hard part was the babies. They both like their Mama's too much. Fortunately I had the big kids to help, and they did. The best part is that it's our turn to go out next.

Last week before church Hayden told Aaron that he was going to tell his Nursery teacher that "I got new underwears and I'm gonna marry Eva, because she wears Princess dresses."...and he did. His teacher told me all about it. (Eva is the other 3 year old mentioned above). 3 year olds make me laugh.
