A conversation between Caite and Hayden (age 5 and 4)
C: Just because you wear your hat backwards and you walk cool and dance cool, doesn't mean you're cool.
H: I know, I'm awesome!

Kids are Funny
On Sunday we had the Burrups over for dinner. They are a middle age "empty nester" couple. Caite asked them if they could Limbo. Sally laughed pretty hard and said, "if I tried to bend that way, I would break something for sure." Roger said "I can do it if you hold it up really high so all I had to do was tip my head back, then I could do it." We didn't limbo that night, we didn't want anyone to break anything.
Last night in FHE we were singing a Primary song. Aaron always signs (ASL) while singing. Hayden kind of laughed and said, "Look, Dad is doing Chinese."
This morning Isaac was playing golf on the wii and started jumping up and down saying. "I got a Boogie, I got a boogie."
And Halle is far from saying anything that makes sense, but she sure babbles A LOT.

Unwelcomed Visitor
For the most part we love to have visitors. We love when family comes to town to visit. We love having friends over for dinner or to play. However, we didn't like the visitor we come home to today. We had just spent 5 hours at a very HOT swim meet and this is what greeted us in our backyard...way too close to the house that we would like!! We scared it when we went out to take a picture. It slithered away into the thick of the woods. He was the biggest snake I have ever seen outside of the zoo. We estimate between 5-6 feet! NASTY!!
So, Mr. Snake take your slithery self away and please don't ever come back!! OR ELSE!

He's a Natural!
Isaac had his first swim meet on Saturday. He did fantastic. He swam in 3 events...Freestyle, Backstroke and Relay. He took first in all 3 events (in his age group)! We are still learning about this swim meet stuff, but because of his times he has qualified for the "Meet of Champs". We've been told that's fantastic.
Waiting to warm-up
Getting a few pointers from Coach Janet
Freestyle
Going in for the WIN
Backstroke...going in for the BIG WIN
Waiting for his time
Boys relay...another WIN
Congrats from dad!
Way to go Isaac!
Poor Girl
Halle has her first ear infection. She started with a fever on Sunday afternoon and became really fussy as the night progressed. Aaron checked her out Monday morning and sure enough she has an infected ear. With it being her first we chose not to do antibiotics, just ear drops and motrin. We wanted her body to fight it off. This morning she seems to be back to normal. We are lucky to have healthy kids. In our 8 years of experience and 4 kids, we have only had 2 ear infections. Not bad. It's nice to have a doctor around when they do get sick.

Entertain Yourself
It was about this time last year when Aaron and I said "enough of the TV". We got tired of the kids fighting over what show they wanted to watch, so we told the them we wouldn't be turning on the TV except for 1 movie they could choose after dinner. That rule was the best thing we did as parents. However, it only lasted until Christmas time. It's true...I caved when Christmas Break came and the weather was too cold to be outside.
We have recommitted ourselves again. We are only on day 4 but we have had no complaints or asking about the TV. It's nice. The kids would rather be outside with friends. And the times they are inside, they have played nicely with each other. I love not having the extra noise...we have enough of that with 4 kids. It's a good thing. Aaron and I will still turn on the news after the kids are in bed, just so we aren't completely out of touch with what's going on around us.

Maumelle Marlins
We had a Mock Swim Meet last night so all of us newbies would know what to do on Saturday. We just did a quick run through with the kickboarders and freestyle. I didn't sign up Hayden, because he's not quite there yet (skill wise). Caite got there and freaked out because the race was in the deep end. Even though they had older swimmers in the lanes to help if needed, she wouldn't do it.
Isaac was a fish. He dove right in and swam his best. He came in 2nd for his heat. His coach was pleased with his time and said "you secured a place on the relay team." Isaac was excited. He has become quite the athlete and is quite the competitor. He's all about the time. His first question when he got out of the water was "what was my time?"...25 seconds for 25 yards. He was happy. At this point we he doesn't know the time for a fast swim vs. a slow one. As long as he knows how his time that's all that matters.
So here's a big shout out to our Maumelle Marlins! Go Marlins Go!
