All morning I've been singing the new song the kids are learning at Church. Here are the words.
If I had been a little child when Jesus lived on earth,
I would have liked to walk with Him and listen to his words,
But as I search the scriptures I can hear His words of peace,
And if I listen with my heart I hear the Savior's voice.
I hear a living prophet speak the things that Christ would say
If He were here upon the earth to talk with me today.
The prophet teaches how to live in righteousness and peace,
And if I listen with my heart I hear the Savior's voice.
I feel the Holy Spirit as He teaches truth and right.
He comforts me in times of need, He testifies of Christ
He speaks to me in quiet ways that fill my soul with peace,
And if I listen with my heart I hear the Savior's voice.
Don't you love those simple words? The scripture of the months is:
"Feast upon the words of Christ; for behold, the words of Christ will tell you all things what ye should do." 2 Nephi 32:3
About a year ago we started reading with the kids from the Book of Mormon every morning before school. I want them to start their day with the "words of Christ" (and an I love you from me) before I send them out to the world. I want them to know that everything we need to know about how to live our lives can be found in the scriptures and that Jesus Christ is our example. I want them to have those words in their minds and hearts as they go out to conquer the obstacles that might face them. While they are young those obstacles might be small, but as they get older, temptations will be greater. I want them to have a strong foundation of faith.
My prayer is that as we read the scriptures daily their testimonies of the Savior will grow, and as their testimonies grow their love and commitment to Him will grow.
